HobbyEagle A3 Super 4 - 4 Mode Setup on a Radiomaster TX15
Objective
The objective is to have 4 gyro flight modes.
The first 3 are:-
- Hold
- Normal
- User
These need to be on a single 3 position Switch i.e. Switch A.
Flight Mode 4 is OFF and needs to be the emergency mode in case the gyro either malfunctions or comes loose in the model. Mode 4 needs to be invoked by flicking a momentary Switch i.e. Switch E.
Once Mode 4 is active it must stay active without the need for the pilot to hold the momentary switch against the spring. However, Switch E, once active, must also be able to pass control back to Switch B by means of a follow up flick. Below is the logical switch setup and the corresponding mixer setup. Voice callouts via Special Functions are not specified.
Logical Switches
Use a Sticky logical switch to turn the momentary switch (SE) into a latching on/off toggle.
- Use AND logical switches to map the three physical switch positions (SA) so they are instantly disabled whenever the emergency override is active.
- Use a Mixes stack to map the logical switches directly to target output percentages which match the Hobby Eagle manual for 6 position modes (but we are only using the first four as Hover and Level are not required).
Step 1: The Latching Emergency Logic
This turns your momentary switch (SE) into a latching flip-flop toggle. The first pull activates the override, and a subsequent pull releases it.
- Press the [MDL] button and navigate to the Logical Switches page.
- Configure L1 to act as the Master Safety State:-
L1
Func: Sticky
V1: SE↓ (This is the spring-loaded pull that turns the emergency override ON)
V2: SE↓ (This is the follow-up pull that turns the override OFF and hands control back)
Stay in the Logical Switches menu and create L2 through L5:
- L2 (Normal Mode 1 - Hold): Func = AND | V1 = !L1 (NOT L1) | V2 = SA↑
- L3 (Normal Mode 2 - Normal): Func = AND | V1 = !L1 (NOT L1) | V2 = SA–
- L4 (Normal Mode 3 - User): Func = AND | V1 = !L1 (NOT L1) | V2 = SA↓
- L5 (Emergency Mode 4 - GYRO OFF): Func = AND | V1 = L1 | V2 = L1 (Triggers instantly whenever L1 is latched ON, ignoring SA)
Step 2: The Mixer Setup
- Go to your Mixes page and highlight the empty channel you want to use (e.g., CH5).
- Configure this first line for your Hold mode:
- Mix Name: Hold
- Source: MAX
- Weight: -100%
- Switch: L2
- Highlight that newly created line, long-press the enter button, and select Insert After. This opens Line 2:
- Mix Name: Norm
- Source: MAX
- Weight: -60%
- Switch: L3
- Multiplex: Add
- Press [EXIT]. Highlight the second line, long-press enter, and select Insert After to create Line 3:
- Mix Name: User
- Source: MAX
- Weight: -20%
- Switch: L4
- Multiplex: Add
- Press [EXIT]. Highlight the third line, long-press enter, and select Insert After to create your final Override Line 4:
- Mix Name: Emergency
- Source: MAX
- Weight: +20%
- Switch: L5
- Multiplex: Replace
Press [EXIT] one last time. Your screen will now display all four options nested neatly under your designated channel, stacked vertically and ready to execute.
Note on the weights: As confirmed by the manual earlier, -100%, -60%, and -20% will hit the first three position windows on the HobbyEagle. Setting Mode 4 to +20% will drive the signal into Position 4, which you will assign to "GYRO OFF" in the HobbyEagle software utility.
How to test your work:
- Go to your radio's Outputs monitor page and look at your gyro channel.
- With the override off, cycle SA. The channel should track cleanly through -100%, -60%, and -20%.
- Move SA to the middle (-60%). Now, pull and release your momentary switch SE.
- The channel should instantly lock to +20% (GYRO OFF) and stay there even when you let go of the switch. Moving SA should have absolutely no effect.
- Pull and release SE a second time. The channel value should instantly snap back down to -60% and hand control right back to SA.
